Shanna Hickey (she/her) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). As an ally, Shanna has had the opportunity to offer culturally safe, trauma-informed support to various populations. In her practice, she strives to create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel empowered to explore their experiences, heal, and thrive. Shanna has extensive experience working closely with communities facing a range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, interpersonal conflict, marital issues, trauma, co-occurring mental health diagnoses, addiction, grief and loss, and child welfare concerns. Using a variety of therapeutic modalities, Shanna’s approach is relational and co-created, centered on authenticity and purpose, guiding clients on their unique healing journeys. She places particular emphasis on Systemic Family Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. Depending on your unique needs, she may also incorporate elements of attachment theory, play, and other healing modalities that resonate with your journey.
In addition to her Master’s Degree she holds a post-Master’s Diploma in Couples and Family Therapy, has completed Intensive Child-Centered Play Therapy Training, and has a post-graduate certificate in Victimology which equips her with specialized skills to provide victim-centered services. She is also trained in Intensive Filial Therapy (FT), an attachment-based approach that emphasizes the parent-child relationship as a way to alleviate child and/or family difficulties. In addition to her training, Shanna has experience working in agencies providing counselling services to children, youth, adults and couples.
Having worked with adults, youth, and children, Shanna is dedicated to meeting you where you are and walking alongside you on your path to healing. She is deeply committed to supporting individuals and families through a decolonized, and anti-oppressive framework. Shanna offers services both virtually and in person. She is a registered counsellor with Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) and is able to direct bill for clients who are funded by CVAP.
